FAQs

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable forms of hyaluronic acid placed beneath the skin to restore volume, soften wrinkles and smooth out the skin. The products carried at ParlourRx are made up of ingredients like hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance found in the body.

Who should not get filler?

  • If you are allergic to any of the components in the filler

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Caution should be taken if you take blood thinners or immunosuppressants

  • Exercise caution if you have a history of severe scarring or have a pigmentation disorder

Can injections cause cold sores?

An injection or any type of stress or trauma to the skin (including laser treatments) can cause a cold sore as the virus that causes cold sores can lay dormant in a person's body until reactivated. If you have a history of the herpes virus you can pretreat with an antiviral before your in-office treatment.

What are the post-care instructions?

For 24 hours you should forgo strenuous exercise, and refrain from excessive sun exposure to help minimize redness and irritation. You should refrain from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for one week to help reduce the risk of bruising and stop using RetinA on your face for 3-5 days to decrease prolonged redness.

Do fillers cause any side effects?

The most common side effects are tenderness, mild redness, bruising and swelling at the injection site. Other symptoms may include nodules or bumps under the skin, that can be seen or felt, but should disappear in a few days. If symptoms persist, an enzyme can be injected to dissolve the nodule or entire area.

How often do I need to re-treat?

Most fillers begin to naturally break down after six months; However, they can stimulate new collagen in the areas injected. The new collagen remains after filler has broken down and been naturally absorbed, extending the benefits of skin looking plump and youthful. Patients generally get touch-ups 1-2 times a year to maintain initial results. Follow-up treatments vary by person, type of dermal filler injected and the target area injected.
